︎Girls in Tang
Fall 2023
Metal smithing, Book design, Illustration
This project involves combining metal craftsmanship with the art of graphic book. Its underlying concept revolves around capturing the appearance of Chinese girls during the ancient Tang dynasty. To achieve this, I conducted research at the Xi'an museum in China, gathering historical relics and evidence to vividly depict Tang dynasty women. Through this exploration of the past, I aim to inspire contemporary women to find their voices and advocate for themselves. The lotus serves as the central symbol, representing the overcoming adversity and rebirth of women. The project encompasses the creation of a metal box adorned with lotus patterns and a tiny book that provides insights into the daily lives of Tang dynasty women. The patterns, images, and illustrations featured in this project were all sourced from the museums I visited.
